Heyho!

If it does not help me, it does at least lift my spirits - it tells me
that possibly the problem is not in my patch. So please let me know if
somebody gets this problem solved.

I did not follow the discussion on your problem, though: if it's the
same problem it should disappear when you turn the optimizer off.
