I have just installed Linux Red Hat 7.1 in my PC, I'm a newby in Linux, and
when I was trying to install mplayer I get the following error:
Checking version of gcc ... 2.96, bad
Please downgrade(upgrade) gcc compiler to gcc-2.95.2+ or gcc-3.0+ version!
The question is the following:
How can I upgrade to gcc-3.0.1 (or 3.0.0, doesn't mind)
I've tried to download the new gcc from your webpage and:
% mkdir objdir
% cd objdir
% /tmp/configure
(I didn't put any options)
% /tmp/objdir/make bootstrap
(I think I get some errors [not warnings] )
% /tmp/objdir/make install
and at the end I get the following: LDFLAGS=" ${flags}" \
install); then \
true; \
else \
exit 1; \
fi; \
else true; \
fi; \
fi; \
done; \
fi
make[2]: Saliendo directorio `/tmp/objdir/i586-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty'
make[2]: Cambiando a directorio
`/tmp/objdir/i586-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/testsuite'
make[2]: No se hace nada para `install'.
make[2]: Saliendo directorio
`/tmp/objdir/i586-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty/testsuite'make[1]: Saliendo
directorio `/tmp/objdir/i586-pc-linux-gnu/libiberty'
I run the configure again of the mplayer and I get the same error as before.
Then, I tryed to download an rpm and install it, but I get the problem that
to install the rpm: "gcc-3.0.0-0.85.i686.rpm", "cpp-3.0.0-0.85.i686.rpm"and
"gcc-3.0.1.tar.gz" but says that I need to uninstall:
gcc-c++-2.96-81
gcc-g77-2.96-81
gcc-objc-2.96-81
gcc-2.96-81
cpp-2.96-81
and at this point I gived up because to uninstall the cpp-2.96-81 I needed
to uninstall WindowMaker because of the dependencis
So, my question is:
How can I upgrade my broken gcc-2.96 to a working gcc-3.0.X?
Please, be really specific, I'm a newby
Thanks a lot
