For much the same reason that:

main() {
       char *a[2];
       a[0]=strdup("Hi");
       a[1]=strdup("Hello");
       qsort (a, 2, sizeof(char*), strcmp);
       printf("%s\n", a[0]);
}

might print Hi, or Hello.
