You're not required to switch. But put yourself in the place of the
person whose application won't build because of a bug in g++.
The good thing about having a shorter release cycle is that we'll have
more releases, so, in case some version has a bug that is fatal for
you, it's still possible that some other version will just work, and,
having more releases, the likelihood of your finding one particular
version that works is greater.
I wouldn't advocate going as far as H.J. goes with his binutils
releases, but having more binary-compatible releases of GCC for people
to choose from would certainly be a good thing for everybody.
