Engage brain before typing:

On the mainline BOOT_CFLAGS="-g -O2 -Os -march=athlon" *fails* for me
with checking enabled (with error as mentioned in my previous) while
BOOT_CFLAGS="-g -O2 -march=athlon" succeeds.
