Well, the whole file handling code in CPP is not particularly satisfying.
-MG is one of 3 or 4 things that get in the way.

But, that aside, try as I might I can't make the code into anything I'm
happier with anyway.  Zack has had similar experiences, so I guess we
should just leave it.
