This could be an interesting test of your web browser. If you're
interested in the history of gcc and how it got started, look it up, and
also look for references on Richard Stallman.
I suppose many people here have their own idea of which is "the"
operating system. You should be able to find references on when and how
Linus Torvalds decided to adopt gcc for building the linux kernel; you
may be able to find out something on FreeBSD; with proprietary OS it's
usually a secret which compilers were used for which parts of the OS.
