Details, please. *Which* files couldn't it locate?
Here's one theory: gcc-core builds only the C compiler, whereas the
full gcc builds compilers for a lot of other languages. Maybe other
languages have dependencies the C front-end doesn't? Or maybe your CC
was not gcc, which is required by front-ends other than C?
