This might be caused by my less-than-average command of the English
language, but I meant by "half-way" compiler the result of taking a
snapshot half way through the process of producing a GCC that would have
to break C++ binary compatibility only *once*.
If this phrase has a less-than-complimentary connotation in English, I
duefully apologize - I did not want to take a "pot shot" here.
