H8/300 PIC?

Does GCC for the H8/300 (using the COFF output format) support position
independant code with the -fPIC flag? The compiler accepts the -fpic and
-fPIC flags without argument, but as far as I can see the generated code
is exactly the same as without it. If PIC is supported, does the H8/300H
target support position independence across the full 24 bit address space?
