FWIW, neither 20000530 or 20000612 has built a working kernel for
me. gcc configured with:
../gcc/configure --prefix=/usr/local/opt --enable-libstdcxx-v3 \
--enable-threads=posix --enable-long-long \
--enable-cshadow-headers --enable-namespaces
