OK, I'll have a look at binutils and do something similiar for gcc. Bugs me
that I didn't think of going that way though, but that's just a case of hurt
ego ;-)

Yepp, perfectly understood. While you do have rules for synching catalogs,
only one who knows the language can judge whether the job went well.
