We should add (at least) one free system different from Linux and I
suggest to use FreeBSD either on ia32 or alpha for that purpose, simply
because it is the most widely used BSD around (using GCC 2.95 as it's
system compiler).

David O'Brien <obrien@nuxi.com> has kindly offered to do the kind of
pre-release testing that is required on 4.0-STABLE and/or 5.0-CURRENT,
and Loren James Rittle <rittle@latour.rsch.comm.mot.com> is also willing
to lend a helping hand.

I believe we should accept their kind offer -- especially as builds on
FreeBSD repeatedly have triggered compiler bugs in the past that did
not occur under Linux, for example.
