I disagree.
Partly because we have already decided this -- in the past, I asked
whether it would be appropriate to post such things, and it was
indicated that it was not. I've come to agree strongly with that
decision.
There are lots of commercial interests present on this list. For the
most part, we collectively do an *excellent* job of keeping those
commercial interests out of the discussions here. That helps to keep
everybody working as a team -- even if the commercial interests we
work for are not necessarily working together. The less commercial
content we can have here, the more we can keep that community
atmosphere.
In addition, these lists are a very level playing field. Anyone can
join, and anyone can post. The SC ensures that everyone has a voice,
and that people who can contribute get a chance to do so. They help
to ensure that everyone knows this is a GNU project, not a
CodeSourcery, CygHat, WindRiver, etc. project.
Adding job listings here will confuse that issue to some extent. For
one thing, that traffic doesn't directly pertain to GCC usage,
development, etc; readers who just want to know what's going on don't
care who's hiring. In addition, some companies will post a lot more
than others, and that's not necessarily fair.
And, the FSF benefits by having a job listings page for all kinds of
jobs. It's appropriate for all of us to do a good turn for the FSF by
using that service, thereby increasing their visibility.
I do think it would be reasonable for the GCC home page to contain a
link to the FSF jobs page to make it easier for people looking for
jobs to find them.
