Yup. They also use gdb for remote debugging, but that doesn't need
many changes. The source for those changes was denied, too.

Likewise. That's why I didn't push it. They're using some of the
header files, too, or at least _G_config.h.

There's absolutely no reason to re-invent the wheel. My beef with them
is that they took an existing wheel, replaced the spokes, and are forcing
other people to reinvent wheels to get similar spokes. It doesn't violate
the FSF's interpretation of the GPL, but it certainly violates the spirit.
(But then, so does all proprietary software.)

By the time they're that good, they seem to leave. ;) We'll see what
happens with UPC.
