Hmm. On gcc/config/i386.c, I have the following tags:
new_ia32_branch: 1.81.0.2
new_ia32_merge_990730: 1.81
new_ia32_merge_990825: 1.82
new_ia32_merge_990828: 1.83
new_ia32_merge_990830: 1.83
new_ia32_merge_990831: 1.84
new_ia32_final_merge: 1.84
The comment on 1.85 is

Merge new ia32 backend from the branch!
The branch 1.81 itself ranges from 1.81.2.1 (1999/06/21) to 1.81.2.17
(1999/08/29), after which it it was merged. Of course there were no
changes to the branch after September 2, because that was the date of
the merge - the branch is dead now.

The public is testing it right now, in the mainline.

- start right now using it, in the mainline.
Hope this helps,
Martin
