gcc's backend technology has a lot of nice beef in it. Also, the
coverage is great. :-)

Yeah, technically all code in gcc is copyright by the FSF, and this
happens through the assignment process.

Yes, unless a reading of that form covers the current work. Most of
the time, it won't. When I did mine, I researched the various
options, and put in all the things I wanted it to cover, for then, and
now (future).
