A question about this thread: I was under the impression that the
current version of libstdc++ was frozen until the real live V3 was
available. But from what people are saying here, it sounds as though
you're talking about patching the V2.x string class to be thread-safe,
as a temporary measure until the whole library is replaced by the fully
thread-safe V3. Do I understand correctly? If not, then ... er ... what
*are* you talking about?
