x86 VxWorks 5.3.1 and before use aout.
I hope they plan on switching to elf soon.

I added the i[3456]86-*-vxworks* support.
I've been using it for quite a while. It's been reliable for me.
However, some of the 2.9.1.0.xx versions are buggy - be careful.
I'm still using my own patch against 2.9.1.
