gcc and g++ compilation option to add -rpath (not in FAQ)

I have the need to add -rpath <egcs-prefix-dir>/lib everytime the C/C++
frontends invoke the link/loader behind the scene -rpath <egcs-prefix-dir>/lib.

I've checked the FAQ http://egcs.cygnus.com/faq.html#rpath but this does not
help.

The solution to add -rpath to every is error prone and I can't use
LD_LIBRARY_PATH because this would confuse other C++ apps because
the the shared C++ libs are not binary compatible.

They are not binary compatible because I can't use GNU as (not supported
on Digital Unix) and in order too
prevent 'Line too long' errors of the Digital Unix assembler I had to enable
flag_do_squangling = 1 in gcc/cp/decl2.c as described in
http://egcs.cygnus.com/faq.html#squangle

One solution might be to put a ld wrapper into <egcs-prefix-dir>/bin
that add -rpath ... to the arguments before it invokes the real ld. But
Hope that there is a way to specify it during configure/bootstrap
time so I don't have to cheat.

A second solution would be to not use shared libs but this would be
really pity :-)

Thanks in advance for any advise,
Achim
