I never met problems building egcs-1.1 and later on Slackware Linux
(except some small ones about a month ago when I upgraded from
libc-5.4.46 to glibc-2.1 but these problems doesn't matter here). I'm using
in Linux practically only gcc and egcs binaries I have built on my system
beginning from gcc-2.8.1 about a year ago.

But without additional info it's impossible to say anything about Your problems.

One more thing some days ago Slackware-current were upgraded to egcs-1.1.1
So You can try to download binary package
