[Assuming I got the right references] We cared and understood enough
to get one bogus patch backed out and replaced with something that
should DTRT. If it doesn't work, make a proper bug report. After
commenting on the second I couldn't be bothered to argue the toss past
someone who won't read the comments or listen to explanations; sorry.
I did make a change locally which will presumably get considered after
the serious outstanding problem with the libf2c build.
