I think what you missed was that Toon was showing a *g77*
invocation. Try the g77 docs.
And, IMO, at some point we need to look into provide hooks into the
gcc documentation (xrefs and/or snarfing in chunks of stuff) for
the front ends to use, a la config-lang.in, lang-specs.h, and
lang-options.h. (I might take that on, after 1.2, if nobody else
gets really excited about doing it.)
If the docs were improved in this way, you'd have found the description
of the option, with at least an xref to the g77 docs, if not the
actual description.
In the meantime, `gcc --verbose --help' isn't a bad alternative!
(As of egcs 1.2 only, IIRC.)
