I have to assume by "working on linux" people mean able to build specific versions of the kernel or specific software packages. Building egcs on linux is not as tricky as on the other environments I've been trying it on. I even tried the NAG f95 beta test and found that egcs fixed as many bugs as it introduced (using gcc version specific NAG libraries), compared with the recommended gcc-2.7.2 series compilers. If the f90/f95 vendors would concentrate on using egcs-1.1.1 series compilers for back end, they would have a better product.
