libstdc++ with fno-vtable-thunks?

The title says it, is it possible to build libstdc++ with this option so that
it will work?
I tried building the egcs1.1.1 with this option enabled. It goes through, but
when I do a test on this vtable topic, I get undefined reference xy in libstdc++2.9.so.

So is it possible, or do I have to forget about?

My settings are: LinuxPPC with pre-R5, glibc2.0.108

Any hints are very welcome

Where can I find a list of compiler options and their explanations? I found
some in the Book 'Porting UNIX Software' but the book is a bit old (1995).
