I can confirm that the same thing happens for me on osf-4.0b
using cc for stage1.

I think I fixed this, let me know if it still fails. A similar
problem happened with `const' if the autoconf test using your stage1
compiler defined it away. (E.g. on SunOS4 cc.) I fixed that one too.
