Well, I don't know what kind of test case to submit. The problem is
consistently repeatable, but apparently goes away when a preprocessed file is
prepared. The 19981026 snapshot was able to build on linux-gnulibc1 when
using BOOT_CFLAGS='-Os -march=pentiumpro'; the next snapshot was not. Not
having CVS access, I can't cut the revision steps any finer, and I don't know
whether the bug appeared as a side effect of curing one of the many problems
in the 19981026 shot, including inability to build on cygwin. I tried several
cases of reversing individual patches in the 19981026-19981101 diff, but
couldn't find any working combination which did not introduce this bug.
