EGCS: Interrupt Support ?

Since egcs is supposed to a better cross-compiler for embedded systems,
I was wondering whether the "interrupt" keyword or "#pragma interrupt"
is ever going to be supported. I can not see any reason why it
shouldn't. It would make life a lot easier than having to write
assembler level stubs. It would also make writing portable code a lot
easier.
There may be reasons why interrupt support is not a good idea but I do
not know them. If anyone can shed some light on this matter then I
would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brendan Simon.
