mips64orion failure in egcs 19980629

Target:  mips64orion-rtems (based on mips64orion-elf)
Host:    i686-pc-linux-gnu (Redhat Linux 5.0)
Version: egcs-19980628

The build failed when attempting libgcc1-test with the following message:

/usr1/rtems/work/tools/build-mips64orion-tools/gcc/xgcc
-B/usr1/rtems/work/tools/build-mips64orion-tools/gcc/ -DCROSS_COMPILE
-DIN_GCC    -O2 -g -I./include  libgcc1-test.o -o libgcc1-test \
  -nostartfiles -nostdlib
`/usr1/rtems/work/tools/build-mips64orion-tools/gcc/xgcc
-B/usr1/rtems/work/tools/build-mips64orion-tools/gcc/
--print-libgcc-file-name`
/usr1/rtems/work/tools/build-mips64orion-tools/gcc/collect-ld:
libgcc1-test.o: compiled for a big endian system and target is little
endian
File in wrong format: failed to merge target specific data of file
libgcc1-test.o

This did not happen with egcs 1.0.3.
