As far as I understood the discussion, however, this (i.e., not
solely relying on the optimizer, but passing down parser information)
is definitely required for full support of the ``old'' behavior.
In any case, I agree with Mike:
So, I guess this is the close of this thread... I think everything
important has been said, and all side presented, now just up to Law
and/or whoever else he chooses. :-)

Jeff, please let us know what your decision is and I will work out a new
patch, either along my original lines or following Mike's (previous)
suggestions.
(The current documentation is not fully sufficient, so we should
definitely fix it, one way or the other.)
