Here's a vote against.  Once Uli Drepper's rewrite is complete, the
interface to libstdc++ is going to be very stable; Linux users are
going to want it in /usr/lib.

Exactly.  It seems sensible when it changes from version to version, but
in the near future we will move away from that, and people will then
be asking us to switch back.
