It turns out there is a serious bug in egcs 1.1 snapshot. See
http://www.cygnus.com/ml/egcs-patches/1998-Jun/0284.html
After patching egcs and recompiling Linux 2.0.34. My machine
has been up for almost 5 days under heard load.
