The binutils _do_ matter. I used to have the previously reported problem
with -fexceptions under 971023 (trying to restore invalid register during
unwinding), while -fsjlj-exceptions worked for the same test case.
But when I rebuilt 971023 and my test with H.J.'s binutils-2.8.1.0.15 --
actually just his as, ld, and libbfd -- that problem is resolved. (yeah!)
I don't know if the zero-fill vs. NOP-fill is the key difference. But
at least we know the reason why H.J. has had success with the same EGCS
that hasn't been working for me and others.
