Reverting the following patch fixes the problem:
+2004-09-02  James E Wilson  <wilson@specifixinc.com>
+
+	* common.opt (ftrapping-math): Default to on.
+

Attached is the preprocessed source.

compile with "-O2 -g -fno-rtti -fnon-call-exceptions
-fdollars-in-indentifiers -fno-common" to see the problem.
