Thanks for your report.
I tried your test case with gcj 3.1 -- the current CVS gcj.
It worked perfectly.
So, I think the bug has already been fixed. The fix will
appear in the next release (due out fairly soon; see the
gcc web pages for details).
I'm closing the PR.
