If I compile your test case with:
GNU C version 3.0.1 20010813
I get the following error:

Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.

If I compile your test case with:
GNU C version 3.1 20010811 (experimental)
Your test case successfully compiles and I do not get this error.
