Yes, you are right. I thought I had installed the newest version, but I had
screwed up and had downloaded the previous version from the page you refer.
I got confused by the unusual user interface of the setup.exe tool.
Sorry for the trouble I have caused you. I always say that when people get
totally frantic about some computer system not working, it is frequently
because they have done something so stupid that they cannot imagine
themselves doing it, and now I have done it again...

You probably need to update your cygwin version.
Go to: http://cygwin.com/ and click on "Install Cygwin Now!".

Making that Makefile stops while building the libraries. I think it is
using the newly created compiler for that. Anyway, it crashes due to
infinitely nested header files. Please find enclosed the last part of the
output from executing make. This output includes the failing command and
its output. Please note that line 36 in cygwin.h does contain an #include
preprocessing statement, and that cygwin.h is not part of an infinitely
nested header file.
