Why can't you simply use AC_SYSTEM_EXTENSIONS in libiberty's configure
script, so that _GNU_SOURCE is defined by GCC as well?
That would only work if every program that uses libiberty uses
AC_SYSTEM_EXTENSIONS .
We configure & build libiberty once, and then proceed to use its
headers for different programs, some of which are _GNU_SOURCE,
some of which are not.
