Maybe the best thing here would be to combine forces and use Jerry's
hash functions, improved as necessary?
Jakub's comment about turning libgfortran into a "kitchen sink" merits
an answer, which I think revolves around the ease and convenience of
the proposed patch. If it were a really heavy addition to the
library, I would agree with Jakub but it is not and I think that the
advantages that it offers win hands down.
