Yes, I know about all of this, but the problem is that there isn't a single processor with the specific configuration that I was looking at - in addition the x86 backend isn't set up the same.
And you can't change it to be better and more like what the rs6000 back-end does? It seems like you are working around the bigger issue here which is x86 backend is not setup for any change in the default target settings (except via -march/-mtune/--with-arch/--with-tune).
