Hi all,

Here's the version of the patch that I committed (rev. 124274), amended to take into account comments. On a more fundamental note, I agree that this BOM problem can only be taken into account fully (for example wrt max line length or preprocessing) by handling correctly the input charsets and, probably, a more complete integration across front-ends.
