Thanks. :-)  The trick is explained in the function I mentioned.

I presume you saw these lines at the end of the function:

  /* ???  Due to negative offsets in ARRAY_REF we can end up with
     negative bit_offset here.  We might want to store a zero offset
     in this case.  */
  *poffset = bit_offset;
  *psize = bitsize;
  *pmax_size = maxsize;

In this case, it's not Ada. :-)
