OK. The assembler bug just affects REL targets in practice, right?
It might be worth emphasising that it's only a problem for o32, o64
and EABI.
Unfortunately, CVS head is also broken in an even more severe
way for n64; see:

(Of course, this should hopefully be fixed before the next release,
and the breakage should be transient enough not to be worth mentioning.
I just wanted to point out that CVS head isn't necessarily a good
choice for everyone.)
