Yes, it's a bug that DWARF takes longer to output than stabs.   
They're probably regression fixes too, since the compiler usually  
gets slower between releases.

We are?  The web site says:

Active development (mainline): will become GCC 4.2.0 (current changes)
Status: Stage 2; 2006-03-17 (open for all changes).
