Please may I apply this patch to the 3.4 branch ?
Is the bug only on the 3.4 branch or is it on the mainline also?

It is just on the 3.4 branch.

(also this is PR 24376 and not PR 27346).

Oops - very sorry about that - thanks for catching it. I have updated the ChangeLog entry locally so that if the patch is approved I will check in the correct PR number.
