Previous 3.4 and 3.3 releases had the same bug; so I guess at this
point it wouldn't be appropriate for 3.4.4.  But I still think it
would be good to fix the problem for 3.4.5, seeing as it is a wrong-
code bug with a pretty much non-risky fix ...

Not for 3.4.4. For 3.4.5, if it's a regression from *some* previous release, then yes; otherwise, no.
