If we're allowing safe cleanups that remove unused code (or code not used 
by any language in current FSF GCC) to make the compiler smaller to go in 
at this stage, then I should propose

queued that removal (of a variable that was only ever set to a nonzero 
value by a very old version of the Chill front end) for 4.1 on the 
presumption that regression fixes only means just that.
