Here is a reduced testcase which I can reproduce on powerpc-apple-darwin:
char buf[10];


void abort (void);
void check (int len)
{
  char *q;
  int i;

  q = buf;
  for (i = 0; i < 1; i++, q++)
    if (*q != 'a')
      abort ();

  for (i = 0; i < len; i++, q++)
    if (*q != 'b')
      abort ();
}
