Mark, are the rest okay with you?
I'm concerned about the slippery slope here. I really do not want to
get into the situation where every useful feature that has gone into the
mainline gets pulled back to the release branch. However, I understand
full well the justification for this patch. I'm pleased that most of
the patch is local to the PowerPC back end.
I would like to get buy-in for this change from the other parties that
will be substantially affected by the change: in particular, the Darwin
maintainers and the embedded folks. As representatives, I'll suggest
Dale/Stan and Aldy Hernandez. If those folks are OK with the change,
then it's OK with me. I've copied them on this mail; please give them
24 hours to object before you commit the patch.
