It has to work where GNAT works (that does not include old UNIXes),
the original version was not written to be portable, and I don't believe
it needs to be that portable.
On the bright side, all the people who used the original
scripts seemed to have GNU bash around and succeeded
running the thing without too much hassle, so I don't
expect that much problems.
